The first tournaments are recorded in the 1925 Zizzer yearbook and Scott Conway's copy of the 1926 tournament booklet. While we all love social media, the written word still serves to record special moments from 100 years ago.

Monroe City R-1 School District will be hosting a Veterans Day Assembly in the HS Gym on Monday, November 11th at 1 pm.

The 1965-1966 Holy Rosary Trojans had a record of 22-7 with three 2nd place trophies. This was the last high school team to play for Holy Rosary. Team members were (front) John A. Hays, Steve Buckman, Tim Quinn, Jack Ritter, Rich Shively and Bill Hays; (back row) Ken Buckman, Scott Dent, Phil Hagan, Jerry Maher, Richard Mayer, Dwayne Williams and Coach Dan Mudd

Born in July of 1933, Norma Stone Rubison is one of the oldest living MHS basketball players from the girls’ team. She graduated in 1951 and played all four years for the Monroe City Lady Panthers. Norma’s late husband, Lilburn, graduated with Jack Jones, the oldest living member of the boys’ team. Norma lives on her farm in Stoutsville, is active in St. Stephen Church at Indian Creek, and remains in excellent health. The group photo includes: (from left) Elizabeth Chatfield, Marilyn Frankenbach Tucker, Margaret Tipton Raetz; (back row) Norma Stone Rubison, Martene Shulse, Anna Marie Duesenberry Gordon.
Norma is not the oldest living female player. Any guesses as to who is?

Congratulations to the following band students for auditioning for all-district band yesterday: Kiya Hester, Tyler Tippit, Gianna Quinn, and Draven Johnson. Gianna and Draven both made the honorable mention band and will rehearse and perform a concert this Saturday evening at Troy Buchanan High School. Draven was designated a district band alternate and will audition for all-state band in December.#MCPride

Some MS Student Lighthouse members attended the STUCO conference in Fulton, bringing back fun new ideas.

Today, we celebrate the 1944-45 teams that played two decades after the first Monroe City Basketball Tournament. The 1944-45 girls’ team included (front row) Lucille Paris Cheek, Kathleen Delashmutt, Shorty Brower, Madeline Beckley and Mary Lou Avery; (back row) Naomi Hill Lehenbauer, LaVon Turnbull, Vern Wright Seward, Coach Williams, Mary Virginia Moss and Martha Lee Greening. Years later Naomi Hill Lehenbauer would advertise in the tournament booklet with her specialties being "cold waves, weck rayor haircuts and machineless permanents." She had phone #13 which was no indication of her long, lucky career in the business world.
