A Piece of Monroe City R-1 History Has Been Found! 🌠
The capsule was created in 1986 by Mrs. Sue Mudd, our longtime and deeply loved elementary art teacher, to coincide with the return of Halley’s Comet. Filled with student artifacts from that year, it was sealed to be opened in 2062. For decades, everyone believed it was buried somewhere on school grounds. Mrs. Mudd herself wondered about its whereabouts, and her husband, Coach Dan Mudd, spent the last few years searching tirelessly for it.
Since Mrs. Mudd’s passing, Coach Mudd has been cleaning up their lifelong farm, and that is where he came across it. The capsule was there all along.
Finding it has been an emotional moment for Coach Mudd. 💛🖤
The capsule will now be stored safely at the school, along with a tribute describing these two great educators, who poured their whole lives into the students of Monroe City. Their legacy lives on in every student they taught, coached, and encouraged.
