Mrs. O’Bryan’s class used their knowledge on percents to buy a car. They had to use the principal amount to find the rate of the loan, the tax when purchasing the car, and the total amount they would be paying the dealership. The students then had to make out a check and fill out a contract for their purchase.
The Feb. 24, 1925, Monroe City Semi-Weekly News reported that the four-county (Monroe, Ralls, Marion and Shelby) basketball tournament was to be held in Monroe City on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27 and 28, 1925, was billed “as the largest and most interest event in athletics ever held here.” Just the year before, the “new” Monroe City High School (where middle school currently is) opened in May 1923, made possible by the 481 to 118 passing of a $75,000 bond.
